Why am I so bad about updating lately?

Location: National Mall

Average pace: 10:21min/mile

Start time: 11/10/11, 5:47am

Start time: 11/12/11, 7:31am
Location: Capitol Hill, RFK Stadium, Nationals Stadium
Distance: 8.2 miles
Average pace: 10:29min/mile
Total Miles For November: 39 miles
Total Miles For 2011: 605 miles
Current Shoes: 146 miles

I guess I keep forgetting to update because on Tues/Thurs I go to the gym and then the office, not directly home. And then I forget. But I also have no excuse on Saturdays. Hmmmm. So, last week’s runs.

Tuesday: So memorable that I don’t remember it, save for being excited about having daylight.
Thursday: Great brisk weather and the difference in the pace showed. Also decided to start adding on a little extra at the end as well to up the weekday count to 6 miles, whenever possible.
Saturday: Nice run through Capitol Hill w/ Ben and John, one of those beautiful autumn days. Actually overdressed a bit, but at least it wasn’t a problem until the end.

Let’s see if, when I get home and download the stuff off my watch, I actually remember to update.

Change of Plans

Start time: 10/22/11, 7:10am
Location: SW Waterfront, Hains Point, Nationals Stadium
Distance: 8.42 miles
Average pace: 9:59min/mile
Total Miles For October: 50 miles
Total Miles For 2011: 561 miles
Current Shoes: 102 miles

Our plan was to meet on the National Mall and run a quick 8-miler, but as it turned out it was closed due to a race. Oops! (No, not Marine Corps Marathon. We’d know about that.) We regrouped down in Southwest and made up a route on the sly, which worked out well. Ran most of it with Rich and John, while Ben and Stephanie did a little less and made up stories about us.

Group 8-miler

Start time: 7/30/11, 6:40am
Location: National Mall
Distance: 8 miles
Average pace: 9:47min/mile
Total Miles For July: 49 miles
Total Miles For 2011: 430 miles

Ran two miles by myself, then six more with the group.

It was around here that one of my knees started bugging me at the starts of runs. I think I may have figured out the cause, though, further along.

Hot, Hotter, Hottest

Start time: 7/23/11, 7:30am
Location: Belle Haven Park, Mt. Vernon Trail
Distance: 8 miles
Average pace: 11:16min/mile
Total Miles For July: 32 miles
Total Miles For 2011: 413 miles

This was a triple digit heat day; something like a high of 102 with a heat index of 120. Steve and Ben were running 18 miles and John and I agreed to try and meet them for 8. The plan was we’d run approximately four miles down the Mt. Vernon Trail and then hopefully catch them coming back up and finish together. Unfortunately we mis-timed it and didn’t see them until we were done. John was a real trooper, though, and pulled me through the worst of it all. (As I joked afterwards, you know it’s unpleasant if I give up caring and take off the shirt.) No worries about time, just aiming to finish sort of conditions.

Aimless

Start time: 6/4/11, 6:30am
Location: SW Waterfront, National Mall, Georgetown, Cap Crescent
Distance: ~8 miles
Average pace: beats me
Total Miles For June: 13 miles
Total Miles For 2011: 320 miles

Ran with John, Stephanie, and Rich on Saturday morning; we did a last second change of location due to the Race for the Cure, so the planned route went out the window and we just winged one that headed up along the edge of the Mall, over to Georgetown and the Cap Crescent, and then on the way back went via Maine Avenue to get to the waterfront. Only GPS was my old crappy one and when it reported the first mile took 12 and a half minutes we knew it was up to its usual “not working very well” tricks. When we got back it said 8.12 miles but the reality was probably a bit more. Hopefully my regular one will be back in a week or so!

More humidity

Start time: 5/28/11, 7:30am
Location: National Mall, Hains Point
Distance: 8 miles
Average pace: 10:24min/mile
Total Miles For May: 53 miles
Total Miles For 2011: 303 miles

Met the group for an 8-miler this morning, and having run on Thursday paid off. So while it was humid and sunny, I was doing ok, but a lot the group was fading fast, especially when there was so shade to help out. Definitely that time of year when you need a week or two to adjust to the shifting weather…

Pre-Wedding

Start time: 4/30/11, 7:00am
Location: National Mall
Distance: 8 miles
Average pace: 10:38min/mile
Total Miles For April: 79 miles
Total Miles For 2011: 250 miles

Just me and Ben; everyone else was out of town or out sick. Ran eight with him, which was nice, but we had to change the route and go back through Georgetown again (which is full of construction equipment and vehicles and is a big slowdown) due to a Walk for the Cure group blocking my planned path. Ah well. Then it was off to a wedding in Leesburg; no time for tea or coffee alas.

Where’d the nice weather go?

Start time: 4/23/11, 7:00am
Location: National Mall
Distance: 8 miles
Average pace: 9:50min/mile
Total Miles For April: 62 miles
Total Miles For 2011: 233 miles

Well, so much for the great weather from the past few days. It’s supposed to warm up a great deal later today, but this morning it was mid-40s, a little rainy, and breezy. Brrrrr. Ran with Michael for a bunch of the run (especially the second half), which was nice because he’ll quietly pick up the pace a touch without me noticing. Genuinely appreciated.

Pleasant Saturday Morning

Start time: 3/12/11, 7:30am
Location: Downtown DC
Distance: 8.25 miles
Average pace: 9:55min/mile
Total Miles For March: 31 miles
Total Miles For 2011: 129 miles

A nice run with the guys; up New Jersey Ave all the way to R Street, then cutting back down 6th before running down to the Waterfront and up around the Washington Monument. Aside from a bit of dawdling at mile 4 (several people were dropping things off at the cars since we were heading near them anyway) we were definitely on top of things.
