Saturday, 4/27: Nice jaunt over the bridge to Mt. Vernon Trail, then all the way up to Key Bridge and heading back via Rock Creek. The inevitable “we’re running down M Street faster than you can normally drive it” jokes were made.

Monday, 4/29: Wet and rainy and miserable, so much that there was a unanimous “I’m fine with cutting this run short” decision made by all three of us.

Wednesday, 5/1: Steve and I were clearly feeling a little zippy after Monday’s shortened run.

Friday, 5/3: Went to the gym before heading out of town and as part of the workout picked up three on the (ugh) treadmill.

Sunday, 5/5: Steve ended up having to miss Saturday’s run so we picked up a 9.5 miler together, which worked out really well. Had to adjust a few times to avoid the Race for Hope 5K course but that was part of the fun, just making up the route as we ran.

The Bad

Was going to run along the Strand in Venice Beach & Santa Monica on this trip… and then I forgot to bring the charger for the Garmin. *sigh* With an 11-miler scheduled, I sucked it up and ran it on the treadmill at the hotel gym. Since it shuts off every 60 minutes, I broke it up into two segments and used the gap in-between to refill the water bottle. I hate treadmill running with a white hot passion but this was ok.

Wednesday: Muggy and humid plus little sleep on Mon night/Tues morning meant that I was dragging bad on Wednesday with Ben and John. Cut out the extra mile at the end and called it a day.

Friday: Just me and Ben doing a make-up run since we knew we were both unavailable on Saturday.

Monday: Over the weekend I did some weights involving legs, and one of my calves has been a little tight since then. Stretched it out really good, then after a 5-minute walk started out slow (12min/mile) on the treadmill and slowly built it up a bit. No pain at all and now it feels MUCH better.

Almost time to swap out the shoes!

So, one broken toe and several weeks off later… the next five runs were all on a treadmill in Bogota, Colombia. A combination of the VERY high altitude (over 8000 feet!), bad air quality, and not knowing the neighborhood meant that discretion was the better part of valor for my exercising. Missed one or two planned runs due to the work schedule not quite cooperating, but I did the best I could and I’m pleased with that. (Plus some crosstraining on other days as well.)

Wasn’t able to get up early enough to do my run outside today (because it is still hot hot hot) so I admitted defeat and used a treadmill at TJ. Then about two-thirds of the way through, I managed to knock loose what I refer to as the “panic button” (that thing you’re supposed to have connected to you in case you fall off the treadmill, so it’ll automatically shut down) and the entire treadmill came to a halt and I wasn’t smart enough to look at what the reading was in time. Oh well. Treadmills are all approximate any, so that’s just my best guess.

Provided I wake up early enough on Saturday, next up should be a 25 minute run. Yay?
